The Separation & Divorce Self-Help Group is focused on helping and supporting individuals who are going through separation and divorce. The group can help people to move through the labyrinth of pragmatic and emotional issues associated with divorce. Generally there is a weekly meeting. Other seminars, workshops and discussions may be held periodically. The group is intended to provide a safe and supportive environment that members can use to work on their own individual goals. Members are encouraged to bring issues and problems they are experiencing to the group and to actively participate in sharing their insights and experiences. If you are experiencing anxiety, sadness, social phobia, ongoing relationship problems or feeling a general dissatisfaction with your life group therapy can help.
Through the sharing of each other’s journeys in group therapy, you can become aware of new paths that can lead you to your goals. Your thoughts and beliefs are inseparably related to your feelings and emotions. In the group, you can challenge these thoughts and beliefs, in a safe and supportive environment. You bring to the group your strengths, competencies and natural ability for growth. The group in turn, can kindle the motivation to take a risk and discover new ways of being. In a sense, the group can amplify your ability for positive growth.
If you have been the victim of abuse or are currently in an abusive relationship, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. It happens to men, men from all kinds of backgrounds. Abuse whether it was in the past or is happening in the present, has a serious physical and psychological impact on the man and the people he cares about.
If you have been abused or you think that you have, please call me (Bernie) at 416-951-1288 and we can discuss how I may be able to help in your recovery.
The mediator is a neutral third party. The mediator helps identify and clarify the issues then helps facilitate communication between the parties helping them create their own agreement.
In the case of separation or divorce, the issues you can resolve together in mediation don’t have to be negotiated by two lawyers. This can save you time, money and alleviate some of the stress associated with an adversarial approach to separation. Mediation is a co-operative process designed to minimize conflict and anxiety for both parties as well as for the children involved. Mediation is meant to provide a supportive framework for both parties to reach a mutual agreement.
Mediation does not replace legal advice. After reaching an agreement, it should be reviewed by your lawyers.
Mediation is also used to help resolve conflicts and disputes in intact families. Disputes involving parenting styles, schools, parenting plans, religion, in-laws, elderly parents, divergent career paths all respond well to a cooperative and facilitative approach. With the right tools, solutions to disputes really can be win-win.
Rates for Mediation: $125 to $175 per hour + tax (subject to the nature of mediation services required).
